How we picked them

Every difference on the site has a ring around it in the answer key. The smaller the ring, the smaller the change. These 12 pictures have the smallest rings on average, out of all 44. That's why a couple of cartoon scenes made the list: their changes are tiny, even if the style looks easy.

The twelve

• Beach Day: sandcastles, beach umbrellas, towels, lifeguard tower. • Vineyard Harvest: rows of grapevines, workers with baskets of grapes, stone farmhouse, wine barrels. • The Bakery: loaves of bread, croissants, cakes on stands, cupcakes. • Friendsgiving: friends around a mismatched table with dishes, fairy lights, board game, turkey. • Antique Shop: grandfather clocks, brass telescopes, porcelain vases, old globes. • Pirate Ship: sails, skull flag, pirate captain with a parrot, treasure chest. • Halloween Street: carved pumpkins on porch steps, kids in costumes with candy buckets, black cat, bats. • The Greenhouse: hanging ferns, orchids, terracotta pots, watering cans. • Pumpkin Patch: rows of pumpkins, hay bales, scarecrow, red barn. • Paris Café: wicker chairs, small round tables with croissants and coffee, flower cart, bicycle with a basket. • Capybara Spa: capybara hot-spring spa where capybaras relax in steaming pools with yuzu fruits floating, towels on their heads, capybara getting a massage, snack bar run by a capybara. • Artist's Studio: easels with half-finished paintings, jars of brushes, paint tubes, skylight.

How to beat a hard one

Go slow and go in strips: top third, middle, bottom. Compare small groups by counting (three ducks against two). Check things that are easy to skip: the edges, the floor, the sky, patterns on cloth. Missing objects are harder to spot than changed ones, so on your last difference, ask "what's gone?" instead of "what's different?".

Three stars means no hints and at most two wrong taps. Each wrong tap adds five seconds. Your best stars and time for each picture stay saved in this browser.

FAQ

What makes a spot the difference puzzle hard?
Small changes in busy places. A missing button on a shirt is harder than a missing chair. Colour changes between similar shades and things that disappear completely are the toughest. These twelve have the smallest changes on the site.
Can I print the hard ones?
Yes. There's a printable version of this set with one puzzle per page and the answer key at the end. They're also good on a big screen, where the small changes are easier to see.
Do hints count against me?
Hints are free to use, but they cost stars. Three stars need zero hints. You get three hints per picture, and each one rings a change you haven't found yet.
